The washed Guatemalan Robusta’s dry wood and dark caramel notes are the pillar of strength in this Vertuo coffee. Sweet malty notes refine the boldness and strike a compelling harmony - these more delicate Costa Rican Arabica aromatics sing through the lingering bitterness and thick crema of the uncommonly refined Robusta.

Origin
The strong personality of this blend arises thanks to the complete harmony between two Central American origins. Boldness - yet without the typical hardness of a low-grown Robusta - is present thanks to the high altitude Guatemalan washed Robusta.
A Costa Rican washed Arabica coffee adds sweet malty notes to balance the boldness of the fine Robusta and achieve a complete cup.
Roasting
This dark-roasted blend is split roasted. The first split is the Guatemalan washed Robusta, roasted dark and long to give the singular intensity.
The Costa Rican washed Arabica is also roasted dark and long, yet shorter than the first part of the blend, in order to counterbalance the overall intensity.

Can Alto Intenso be brewed shorter and stronger for a milk drink?
On Vertuo machines with Coffee Creations the same capsule brews a shorter, stronger cup, intended as the base for iced and milk drinks. It is an extra mode, not the only one these machines have: a normal cup is still one press. On Vertuo Next, Pop, Pop+, Lattissima and Creatista you turn it on by pressing the coffee button twice — it blinks turquoise, the mode applies to that cup only, and the machine goes back to brewing normally afterwards; Vertuo Up has a dedicated Coffee Creations button, and there the mode stays on until the machine is switched off. The size steps down one place: an Espresso capsule brews as a Ristretto (25 ml), Double Espresso and Gran Lungo brew as an Espresso (40 ml), and a Mug capsule brews as a Double Espresso (80 ml). The machine refuses the mode for Ristretto, Cold Brew Style and Carafe capsules — the mode switches off again and the barcode size is brewed — and Nespresso does not recommend it for Alto or the Coffee+ range. In the rare case that the double press does nothing, try updating the machine’s firmware from the Nespresso app. Older Vertuo models, including Vertuo Plus, brew only the size written in the barcode.
