About this coffee

Origin

With this Vertuo coffee

Vertuo Caramelizio - it all starts with a smooth blend of Arabica coffees from Brazil and Central America.

Roasting

The Arabica coffees get a light roast - it keeps that round, smooth taste of the Latin American coffees in this Vertuo coffee capsule.

Summary of what people say: This capsule has a strongly negative and formulation-sensitive reception. The coffee is often described as bland, underwhelming or actively unpleasant, although oat milk with extra caramel can make it more appealing and the capsule works acceptably for some drinkers. The older and reformulated versions are described differently, so it is mainly for people who want a mild caramel drink and are comfortable adding milk or syrup.

  • Can work with oat milk and extra caramel
  • A mild, sweetened drink may suit some preferences
  • Often described as bland or underwhelming
  • Can taste actively unpleasant to some drinkers
  • The caramel character may need milk or syrup to become noticeable

What people say

  • I, as well as my friends and others' comments I have read, are extremely disappointed by the change to the Carmelizio pod.

  • I did think the Intenso, Melozio, and Caramelizio capsules weren’t bad - but I’d still take one of the espresso capsules as a latte or cappuccino over them 9/10 times.

  • I setup the machine, performed the initial cleaning and then tried the Caramelizio capsule. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting, but the flavor seemed bland overall.

Source (opens in a new tab)
  • I just filled it an inch or two with oat milk that I had shaken, added a few squirts of caramel, and then brewed the pod, that’s it! It was soo good, maybe a tad bit too much caramel but that’s an easy fix :)

  • The flavored assortment (Caramelizio, Vanizio, Hazelino) I purchased on Amazon, which I enjoyed but wasn’t super impressed with.

Source (opens in a new tab)
  • The old formulations, Vanizio, Caramelizio, and especially Hazelino used to be my favorites! but not after the reformulations, they're very underwhelming...

Common questions

What is the intensity of Caramelizio?

Caramelizio has an intensity of 6 on the manufacturer's scale and is intended for a Coffee (230 ml) cup size.

Which machines does Caramelizio fit?

Caramelizio is a Vertuo capsule and fits Vertuo machines only. Vertuo and Original capsules are physically different and are not interchangeable.

Is Caramelizio a capsule or a coffee pod?

Both words describe the same thing. The manufacturer calls them capsules, and English-language stores also say coffee pods; Caramelizio is one sealed portion of ground coffee either way. This site says "capsule" throughout only for consistency — searching for "Caramelizio pods" and "Caramelizio capsules" will find the same coffee.

What does Caramelizio taste like?

The published flavour notes for Caramelizio are balanced, mild.

What cup size is Caramelizio brewed at?

Storefronts list Caramelizio at Coffee (230 ml).

Can Caramelizio be brewed shorter and stronger for a milk drink?

On Vertuo machines with Coffee Creations the same capsule brews a shorter, stronger cup, intended as the base for iced and milk drinks. It is an extra mode, not the only one these machines have: a normal cup is still one press. On Vertuo Next, Pop, Pop+, Lattissima and Creatista you turn it on by pressing the coffee button twice — it blinks turquoise, the mode applies to that cup only, and the machine goes back to brewing normally afterwards; Vertuo Up has a dedicated Coffee Creations button, and there the mode stays on until the machine is switched off. The size steps down one place: an Espresso capsule brews as a Ristretto (25 ml), Double Espresso and Gran Lungo brew as an Espresso (40 ml), and a Mug capsule brews as a Double Espresso (80 ml). The machine refuses the mode for Ristretto, Cold Brew Style and Carafe capsules — the mode switches off again and the barcode size is brewed — and Nespresso does not recommend it for Alto or the Coffee+ range. In the rare case that the double press does nothing, try updating the machine’s firmware from the Nespresso app. Older Vertuo models, including Vertuo Plus, brew only the size written in the barcode.
