Taste profile

Variations Italia Amaretti Flavour is a true treat. Its classic almond note lands in harmony with the subtle hint of vanilla and sponge cake laced through this smooth and sweet flavoured espresso.

About this coffee

Origin

The base espresso for the Variations flavoured coffees is a sweet and velvety blend of Latin American and African Arabicas with a soft biscuit note. Brazilian coffee gives the blend roundness and balance, whilst Ethiopian coffee in the second split brings delicate aromatics and finesse.

Into that smooth blend come the bittersweet almond and vanilla flavours that make Variations Amaretti a nugget of goodness.

Roasting

The Brazilian beans are roasted medium dark and quickly to develop their sweetness, and the second split gives this Vertuo flavoured coffee its velvety texture.

Summary of what people say: This capsule for Vertuo has a strongly positive dessert profile built around almond-cookie, cherry and liqueur-like notes. Drinkers enjoy it neat, in cappuccino or latte, and some find the flavour more pronounced than other almond capsules; a tasting note finds the almond character too overwhelming as espresso but enjoyable with milk. It is best suited to people who want a clearly flavoured seasonal coffee.

  • Distinct almond-cookie and cherry character
  • Works neat and in cappuccino or latte
  • A clearly flavoured seasonal dessert coffee
  • The almond flavour can be overwhelming as espresso
  • The pronounced liqueur-like character will not suit people who prefer subtle coffee

What people say

  • This one I can definitely taste but not too much, and I don’t get a cherry taste whatsoever as I’ve seen some people reporting that. Tastes just like an almond cookie!

  • I didn’t like the Amaretto last year too much. I still have a couple of the Vertuo Amaretto to do a side-by-side.

  • I just finished my first taste of the amaretti, neat, and it definitely has a cherry flavor--- but I expected that since amaretti is almond and stone fruit flavored liquor. Really happy with it.

  • I had them both as a cappuccino with a tiny bit of simple syrup and I’m obsessed!

  • I am just having this one now. OMG!!! how many more sleeves should i stock up . Love this!

  • Amaretto has a bit more flavour to it and more so of actual amaretto.

  • It doesn’t work for me at all as an espresso, the amaretti flavors are too overwhelming. As a latte I really like it, but it’s still something to have sparingly, like fruit cake :)

  • I had it as a cappuccino yesterday. Doubled up on the pods. Good flavours.

Common questions

Which machines does Amaretti Flavor fit?

Amaretti Flavor is a Vertuo capsule and fits Vertuo machines only. Vertuo and Original capsules are physically different and are not interchangeable.

Is Amaretti Flavor a capsule or a coffee pod?

Both words describe the same thing. The manufacturer calls them capsules, and English-language stores also say coffee pods; Amaretti Flavor is one sealed portion of ground coffee either way. This site says "capsule" throughout only for consistency — searching for "Amaretti Flavor pods" and "Amaretti Flavor capsules" will find the same coffee.

What does Amaretti Flavor taste like?

The published flavour notes for Amaretti Flavor are fruity.

What cup size is Amaretti Flavor brewed at?

Storefronts list Amaretti Flavor at Coffee (230 ml).

Can Amaretti Flavor be brewed shorter and stronger for a milk drink?

On Vertuo machines with Coffee Creations the same capsule brews a shorter, stronger cup, intended as the base for iced and milk drinks. It is an extra mode, not the only one these machines have: a normal cup is still one press. On Vertuo Next, Pop, Pop+, Lattissima and Creatista you turn it on by pressing the coffee button twice — it blinks turquoise, the mode applies to that cup only, and the machine goes back to brewing normally afterwards; Vertuo Up has a dedicated Coffee Creations button, and there the mode stays on until the machine is switched off. The size steps down one place: an Espresso capsule brews as a Ristretto (25 ml), Double Espresso and Gran Lungo brew as an Espresso (40 ml), and a Mug capsule brews as a Double Espresso (80 ml). The machine refuses the mode for Ristretto, Cold Brew Style and Carafe capsules — the mode switches off again and the barcode size is brewed — and Nespresso does not recommend it for Alto or the Coffee+ range. In the rare case that the double press does nothing, try updating the machine’s firmware from the Nespresso app. Older Vertuo models, including Vertuo Plus, brew only the size written in the barcode.
