About this coffee

Origin

The Rwenzori Mountains - mountains of the moon - stretch for 120km along the western Uganda. The glaciers and snow-capped peaks provide steady water sources to complement the abundant rainfall that nourishes the fertile soils.

High above the 1200m mark grows a rare, yet almost forgotten coffee. Its unique terroir is complemented by the shade and nutrients provided by banana trees, creating a true Arabica dreamland.

However, the isolation and years of neglect were clear in the cup.

Roasting

The first split is roasted to a dark degree to enhance body, complexity and to balance with the wild notes that come from the natural (dry) process. The second split is roasted more lightly, reaching a medium-dark degree to explore the tropical fruit character.

Summary of what people say: This capsule for Vertuo has a strongly divisive profile: the taste can seem odd and unfamiliar, and the cup may become difficult to finish. It is a risky choice for anyone who prefers familiar, straightforward coffee.

What people say

  • To each their own, this may be my least favorite Nespresso flavor. I have the Vertuo though, not sure if the Original is better.

  • Have to agree, it's by far the worst Vertuo pod I've tried. I almost always finish a cup, even if it's not to my taste, but I had to stop this one halfway through. It's very odd tasting.

Common questions

What is the intensity of Amaha awe Uganda?

Amaha awe Uganda has an intensity of 6 on the manufacturer's scale and is intended for a Gran Lungo (150 ml) cup size.

Which machines does Amaha awe Uganda fit?

Amaha awe Uganda is a Vertuo capsule and fits Vertuo machines only. Vertuo and Original capsules are physically different and are not interchangeable. The official store also sells a Original capsule under the name Amaha awe Uganda. They are different products with the same name, so check which line a pack is for before buying: this page covers the Vertuo one.

Is Amaha awe Uganda a capsule or a coffee pod?

Both words describe the same thing. The manufacturer calls them capsules, and English-language stores also say coffee pods; Amaha awe Uganda is one sealed portion of ground coffee either way. This site says "capsule" throughout only for consistency — searching for "Amaha awe Uganda pods" and "Amaha awe Uganda capsules" will find the same coffee.

What does Amaha awe Uganda taste like?

The published flavour notes for Amaha awe Uganda are balanced, floral, flowery, woody.

What cup size is Amaha awe Uganda brewed at?

Storefronts list Amaha awe Uganda at more than one size: Gran Lungo (150 ml), Lungo (110 ml).

Can Amaha awe Uganda be brewed shorter and stronger for a milk drink?

On Vertuo machines with Coffee Creations the same capsule brews a shorter, stronger cup, intended as the base for iced and milk drinks. It is an extra mode, not the only one these machines have: a normal cup is still one press. On Vertuo Next, Pop, Pop+, Lattissima and Creatista you turn it on by pressing the coffee button twice — it blinks turquoise, the mode applies to that cup only, and the machine goes back to brewing normally afterwards; Vertuo Up has a dedicated Coffee Creations button, and there the mode stays on until the machine is switched off. The size steps down one place: an Espresso capsule brews as a Ristretto (25 ml), Double Espresso and Gran Lungo brew as an Espresso (40 ml), and a Mug capsule brews as a Double Espresso (80 ml). The machine refuses the mode for Ristretto, Cold Brew Style and Carafe capsules — the mode switches off again and the barcode size is brewed — and Nespresso does not recommend it for Alto or the Coffee+ range. In the rare case that the double press does nothing, try updating the machine’s firmware from the Nespresso app. Older Vertuo models, including Vertuo Plus, brew only the size written in the barcode.
