About this coffee

Origin

This 100% arabica blend only uses delicate, sun-dried African beans from Ethiopia and Uganda

Roasting

A particularly light and short roast done in two splits, separated by origin. The beans from Uganda get a little more development time to create some intensity, while the Ethiopian beans are roasted even lighter to preserve the finer aromatics.

Summary of what people say: This capsule is a limited Vertuo collaboration with a light, delicate and often fruity or Ethiopian-style profile. It can show plum, bright fruit and a filter-coffee character, although some cups taste watery, sharply acidic, wine-like, vegetal or simply unlike coffee. Hot and cold preparations can differ noticeably, so it suits people who enjoy a light, unusual cup and are willing to adjust the recipe.

  • Light, delicate and fruity character appeals to fans of lighter roasts
  • Some perceive plum, Ethiopian or pour-over-like notes and call it a favorite
  • Works for some as an iced drink or with milk and sweetener
  • It can taste watery, barely coffee-like, sharply acidic or too light
  • It can also show red-wine, green-pea or odd post-brew notes

Common questions

What is the intensity of Blend No. 1?

Blend No. 1 has an intensity of 4 on the manufacturer's scale and is intended for a Gran Lungo (150 ml) cup size.

Which machines does Blend No. 1 fit?

Blend No. 1 is a Vertuo capsule and fits Vertuo machines only. Vertuo and Original capsules are physically different and are not interchangeable.

Is Blend No. 1 a capsule or a coffee pod?

Both words describe the same thing. The manufacturer calls them capsules, and English-language stores also say coffee pods; Blend No. 1 is one sealed portion of ground coffee either way. This site says "capsule" throughout only for consistency — searching for "Blend No. 1 pods" and "Blend No. 1 capsules" will find the same coffee.

What does Blend No. 1 taste like?

The published flavour notes for Blend No. 1 are biscuity, caramel, cereal, floral, flowery, red fruit.

What cup size is Blend No. 1 brewed at?

Storefronts list Blend No. 1 at Gran Lungo (150 ml).

Can Blend No. 1 be brewed shorter and stronger for a milk drink?

On Vertuo machines with Coffee Creations the same capsule brews a shorter, stronger cup, intended as the base for iced and milk drinks. It is an extra mode, not the only one these machines have: a normal cup is still one press. On Vertuo Next, Pop, Pop+, Lattissima and Creatista you turn it on by pressing the coffee button twice — it blinks turquoise, the mode applies to that cup only, and the machine goes back to brewing normally afterwards; Vertuo Up has a dedicated Coffee Creations button, and there the mode stays on until the machine is switched off. The size steps down one place: an Espresso capsule brews as a Ristretto (25 ml), Double Espresso and Gran Lungo brew as an Espresso (40 ml), and a Mug capsule brews as a Double Espresso (80 ml). The machine refuses the mode for Ristretto, Cold Brew Style and Carafe capsules — the mode switches off again and the barcode size is brewed — and Nespresso does not recommend it for Alto or the Coffee+ range. In the rare case that the double press does nothing, try updating the machine’s firmware from the Nespresso app. Older Vertuo models, including Vertuo Plus, brew only the size written in the barcode.
